When was the last time a rookie RB collected 60+ fantasy points in his first Sunday-to-Thursday split? After two months of waiting, patient managers finally got what they thought they were getting in TreVeyon Henderson. His career-high 19 carries easily topped Sunday's 14, and his 24 touches were comfortably above his previous high of 18 (Week 9).
Interestingly, he exceeded 24 touches only four times in college, most recently a little over two years ago. Last year he downsized to a 1B role when Ohio State brought in Quinshon Judkins. So yeah, it's been a while since Henderson has operated as a bell cow.
Now the question is whether he'll remain the bell cow when Rhamondre Stevenson returns. Smart people might say, "Of course." Other smart people might say, "There's no way Stevenson is going to sit on the bench." Given the unpredictability of this backfield prior to Stevenson's injury, I don't think we'll know the answer until we see it play out. For now, though, Henderson has shown he belongs atop the depth chart.
The implications for what happens next are huge, and not just because of Henderson's massive ceiling. New England's remaining schedule might be the most fantasy-RB-friendly in years or even more than a decade. Next week they get the Bengals, which are yielding the most RB fantasy points per game. Then the Giants (third-most), Bills (seventh-most), and Ravens (sixth-most). And finally the Jets again before wrapping up with the Dolphins (eighth-most).
Elsewhere, Mack Hollins showed last weekend's impressive showing wasn't a fluke, he was Drake Maye's second-most-targeted WR. Even at 32 years old, Hollins keeps getting it done.
Meanwhile, the Jets have become a hub for reclamation projects. John Metchie led all New York WRs with three receptions and 45 receiving yards while catching his team's only TD pass. Adonai Mitchll led the Jets with six targets with almost nothing to show for it. Justin Fields played his best on the opening drive, racking up about half of his full-game fantasy production. Superflex managers will embrace his surprisingly good showing. But it doesn't mean he'll remain the starter.
And Breece Hall joins a long list of talented running backs who spend much of their careers in lower-tier offenses. In his four NFL seasons, the Jets have finished 29th, 29th, and 24th in scoring. They were 25th entering last night. Dynasty managers need to hope he jumps ship when he hits free agency in a few months.
For the final score contest, the competition was fierce. There was no smack talk, but it was clear no one wanted to lose, except maybe Brian Cloutier, whose gutsy 175-6 pick earned the most style points. In the end, Jared Gassin and Chris Aldape took home the prize, predicting a 27-13 Pats victory.
