Winless teams

Not sure if it's still current, but an article 16 years ago stated that the only 0-5 team to finish with a winning record was the 1962 Bills (7-6-1). The Jets, Saints, and Titans are 0-4. Tennessee has only two semi-notable fantasy players: Tony Pollard (RB30 in points per game) and Elic Ayomanor (WR43). Most managers should be able to replace them fairly comfortably if the team folds up by the fantasy playoffs.

New Orleans has more valuable assets, including Alvin Kamara (RB27), Chris Olave (WR29), Rashid Shaheed (WR39), and Juwan Johnson (TE10). The returning Taysom Hill offers massive upside and a low floor. While some managers might experience discomfort if the Saints throw in the towel down the stretch, none of these guys are "league winners."

Yes, some of you might say Johnson can be a league winner. But we've seen this play out with him again and again. 17.1 fantasy points in Week 1 of 2021, followed by 2.8 points per game the rest of the year. Two 20+ point performances in 2022 along with six outings with less than 3.5 points. 2023: another 20+ point outburst in Week 17, with half of his other 12 games resulting in less than 3.5 points. And after hitting 10.6 points in Week 1 last year, he didn't reach double-digits again until Week 11.

Then there are the Jets. Justin Fields (QB7) and Garrett Wilson (WR5) are crushing it when active. Breece Hall (RB26) has the potential to crush it any given week, though his window for posting elite or even near-elite numbers this season appears to be closing. The point is, if this team continues to struggle, who knows whether Hall will get traded to a contender and slots in as the 1B, or as a 60-40 1A. Fields has played in more than 13 games only twice, and one of those times was at Ohio State.

So if you have any of these guys, you're rooting for them to win and stave off (at least for one more week) the risk of a late-season offensive overhaul. The favorable matchup helps.

Good luck today.
