Risks for the 49ers

I'm driving my kids mid-morning thru early afternoon, so feel free to weigh in if anyone has sit/start dilemmas. Next Thursday's game (Lions vs. Packers) features two teams that played this past Thursday. In other words, no short weeks, so no teams will be worrying about short-term RB load management.

One of the games I'm watching most closely today is the Bills vs. 49ers. San Fran could fall 2 1/2 games behind the Commanders for the final Wild Card spot and two games behind the Cards for the NFC West title. No doubt, there would still be time to make up ground. But this Niners team has had too many key injuries, and they need CMC to play his best football -- something he hasn't come close to doing since returning to the field.

There is a risk that those who invested in CMC, George Kittle, etc. could confront a scenario where the 49ers lose three of their next four contests (Bills, Bears, Rams, and Dolphins), eliminating them (possibly) from playoff contention ahead of a Week 17 "showdown" vs. Detroit. It's a worst-case scenario, and it's also somewhat realistic if this team falls to Buffalo.

Good luck today.
