As we gear up for today's games, a note on Alvin Kamara and Javonte Williams. Both of those guys will be playing again on Thursday. In six career Sunday-Thursday contests (where the RB had at least 10 touches on Sunday), Kamara has averaged 20.0 Sunday touches and 15.8 Thursday touches. Javonte Williams has experienced this only once -- during his 2021 rookie campaign, when he had 14 Sunday touches and 10 Thursday touches.
Kamara's on pace for 388 regular season touches this year. Yes, this week he'll play both games with a green quarterback. Kamara might catch six or more balls on dump-offs. He *should* be fine. But his career-high is 287 touches. He's had a relatively absurdly big workload, especially for a 29-year-old with no previous uber-workhorse experience.
If New Orleans leans on him heavily today, I'd expect Jamaal Williams and/or Kendre Miller to combine for 15+ touches on Thursday, reducing Kamara's role in the process. And if the Saints somehow beat the Bucs easily today, it should keep Kamara at or below 15 touches, giving him a better shot at 20+ on Thursday (and by extension, making Williams and/or Miller TD-dependent dart throws.
Javonte Williams' situation is tougher to gauge. He's picked things up these past two games with 18 touches in each. The offense is making headway, even if that hasn't translated into rushing scores. The biggest problem is that Jaleel McLaughlin has been hovering around 9-10 touches. If Williams somehow dominates touches today, McLaughlin would be a fantastic streamer on Thursday. If McLaughlin and Williams split touches today, then as long as Williams still looks good, I'd expect the latter to dominate touches on Thursday.
Good luck.
