And we're back for season #12 of Fantasy Football for Winners. Back in 2013, I figured if I was still doing this by 2024, it would be because I lost a bet. But that was before this community was formed. As shared repeatedly over the years, you--much more than football--are the reason I keep doing this. Thank you for being here.
Since this is a no-frills blog, I'll keep this opening column short and sweet. Five things:
First, as always, tomorrow kicks off the annual "32 Teams in 32 Days." We'll dive into each player's fantasy implications. And as always, if you disagree with anything, shout it out. Be thoughtful and don't hold back. There are so many unknowns each summer. Let's all get a little bit smarter ahead of our drafts.
Second, roughly 150 of you have signed up for season #6 of the Premier Fantasy Football League. This year I'm giving managers the option to compete in a division that does auction drafts. If enough folks want to be in a no-trade division, I'll create one of those. If several friends or family members want to be in the same division, I'll make that happen. The PFFL is evolving into a winner-take-all league where competitors join a division that more closely fits their fantasy lifestyle. If you want in or have questions, ping me.
Third, my annual preseason rankings are live. This year it's my top 400 (rather than 300) players. Going deep knowing a bunch of "undraftable" players will invariably become fantasy relevant during the season. Donate anything you want below, and I'll send you the link, which is updated throughout the summer.
Fourth, possibly hundreds of you these past 12 seasons have asked for more content, such as rookie analyses and weekly RB handcuff rankings. All of that takes time. This season I'm going to devote the time if there's still demand. If you want an add-on, pick one or more options on the main FF4W page: fantasyfootballforwinners.com/p/ff4w-subscriptions.html.
Fifth, many fantasy news stories these days go something like this: "QB A is showing incredible chemistry with rookie WR B," or "Veteran RB C is showing more burst than we've seen in years." My advice is to ignore 99% of it. Sports reporters have to write about something, and each team feeds positive narratives that reporters eat up. Nothing wrong with it. This is simply what the NFL in June looks like: a lot of hope and hype. But the 1% I do care about is how these puff stories impact player ADP. Too much hype can drive up player values to the point where they're overrated. Players who are largely ignored (like Jordan Love last summer) become some of my biggest buys.
So if you see something in the news, and my ranking for that player doesn't change, it's not because the story is irrelevant (though that might be the case). Instead, I'm waiting to see if/how the market value shifts.
