First thing's first: I was wrong about Josh Jacobs. Predicted 9-13 points based on nearly 10 seasons of Sunday-Thursday RB regression data. Heading into last night, of the 46 Sunday-Thursday RBs since 2013 who've had 25+ touches on Sunday, only seven (15%) had as many or more touches on Thursday. Jacobs had 28 touches on Sunday and 29 last night. Only three other times in the last three years (since Week 13, 2019) has a 20+ touch (not 25+, but *merely* 20+) Sunday RB had more touches on Thursday.
Jacobs now has a seemingly impossible 727 total yards in the span of 19 days. Boggles the mind.
Overall, last night was an odd game, which I suppose can be expected when a newly signed former #1 overall draft pick enters on the second offensive drive, looks completely lost for most of the next three quarters, and then leads his team to a last-second, come-from-behind victory. Beyond Jacobs, the top fantasy scorers last night were Ben Skowronek, and Baker Mayfield.
Sticking with Baker: I still don't understand the signing. And maybe that's why I have no business GM'ing a professional sports team. This is a time to celebrate. Baker was the hero. Well deserved. Et cetera.
But if you have Van Jefferson, or if you're in a two-QB league and are lunging for Baker, be mindful of their fantasy playoff schedule: @Packers, Broncos, @Chargers, @Seahawks. Three of those four could be very tough. Baker couldn't outplay Sam Darnold or P.J. Walker in Carolina. He made some awful throws last night and took too many hits--against one of the worst pass defenses and worst pass rushes. If he's exposed these next two weeks, I wouldn't be surprised.
Cam Akers might have salvaged his depth-chart standing with a late score, and a terrific fourth-down catch that set up his score. He also lost a fumble. Kyren Williams looked good on three carries. Honestly, I can't trust any Rams these next two weeks, and Akers has little room for error in a lost season.
For Vegas, the end is near. They needed to win four of their last five games to have a shot at the playoffs. Derek Carr looked awful, outside of one terrific throw down the sidelines. This remains a three-man offensive: Jacobs, Davante Adams, an Mack Hollins. Even with Darren Waller expected to return next week, I'm not anticipating fireworks for the aging, often-injured TE.
And for the closest-score prediction, we have a first-time winner: Brian Cloutier. Brian predicted 20-17 Rams, which is dang impressive given how few of you picks L.A. to win. Congrats Brian!
