Week 11 Thursday Night Football Recap

It worked on Monday Night Football, and it worked again last night. Two prime-time games. Two road teams. Two anemic, high-volume rushing game plans. Two middling QBs rising to the occasion with opposing D's looking to stop the run. Two victories.

Washington's backfield averaged 3.3 yards per carry. Derrick Henry (plus one Dontrell Hilliard carry) averaged only 3.1. But it was enough. Henry is officially a deep yellow flag heading into the final weeks of the fantasy regular season. He's on pace to lead the league in rushing-attempts-per-game for the fourth straight year. I don't know if anyone's done that before. Looked it up partially last night, with an eye toward Jim Brown. He did is six times, with no more than three consecutively (his final three seasons).

So yeah, Henry's in pretty rare company. And for a guy turning 29 in January, it's concerning.

In response to one of your questions the other day, I poo-poo'd the thought of Treylon Burks being fantasy relevant down the stretch. Clearly not a good take. The Titans want to get him involved ahead of the postseason. But . . . Ryan Tannehill isn't normally a 300-yard passer. So we might temper expectations a bit -- though home games against the Jags and Texans look terrific.

For Green Bay, Aaron Rodgers wasn't as dominant as I thought he'd be. Believe I predicted 19+ points. He finished with 17. At 4-7, they'll head to Philly next week, where their playoff hopes might (almost) end. It's too bad, because he has a nice fantasy playoff schedule (Miami and Minnesota in Weeks 16 and 17, and then the Lions if you play Week 18). But he was my preseason QB16 (vs. a QB9 ADP) for these reasons and more. He's not the same quarterback he once was. He probably won't be startable until Week 16.

On the ground, Aaron Jones struggled as expected. 26 touches on Sunday impacted him, I believe, just as Henry's 21 Sunday touches hindered him on the ground. Fantasy managers probably will take Jones's 12 fantasy points, but barely. And A.J. Dillon did worse than I expected; thought he'd get more than seven touches. Negative game script probably was the culprit. He's still struggling to break through.

The big story for the Packers was Christian Watson, who now has five TDs in the last five days. Allen Lazard dominated targets (11 to six), but Watson looked like the more explosive playmaker. It idn't help Lazard that Randal Cobb caught all six of his targets for 73 yards. Cobb might be a popular waiver add next week. I'd look elsewhere. The veteran's more likely to be a spoiler than the team's yardage leader.

And the winner of the closest-score contest is Justin Branson (congrats Justin!), who guessed 30-17 Titans. This is Justin's first victory of the season. And on a side note, congrats to all of you who picked Tennessee. I've been completely wrong about them all season, and am still amazed that they're doing as well as they are.

Have a great Friday.
