Notable Fantasy Storylines for Week 9 Sunday Games

I counted five games yesterday that went far, far differently than most people could have imagined: the Browns blowing out the Bengals. the Broncos (essentially, minus the last few minutes of garbage time) blowing out the Cowboys. The Falcons somehow clawing back to win after their fourth-quarter collapse against the more talented Saints. The Titans handling the Rams. And the Jaguars somehow transforming the Bills' offense into the 2007 Bills' offense.

So how do we make sense of what just happened? Are Patrick Mahomes' struggles the new norm? Is Rhamondre Stevenson now in a timeshare with Damien Harris? Here's a handful of notable fantasy storylines coing out of yesterday's games:

First, Joe Mixon remains one of the least appreciated RBs in recent fantasy football history. He was my RB-5 this summer despite an RB-13 ADP, and many experts simply didn't trust him. He's on pace for 301 fantasy points. This is what a healthy Joe Mixon can do.

In the two games since Jerry Jeudy's return, Tim Patrick has led the team in receiving yards. It doesn't make sense, except it does if you consider how good Patrick has been in spot starts. This is officially a cluttered receiving corps, as Teddy Bridgewater doesn't do enough--or doesn't need to do enough--to keep Patrick and Jeudy and Courtland Sutton heavily targeted in the same game.

Adrian Peterson scored more points than I expected, thanks to a late one-yard score. But he ran like a 36-year-old who no other team wanted--even the desperate ones.  D'Onta Foreman simply looked better.  While it's only one game, it seems clear that Jeremy McNichols is the best PPR play here, and Foreman offers the most upside on the ground.  AP will be a weekly RB5/6 unless he finds the end zone.

And what is happening to Mahomes? He’s thrown only two TD passes in the Chiefs' last three games, and in four of his last five contests he hasn’t cracked a 75.0 QB rating. Can we still call him, say, a top-8 QB? Is he a must-start next week? That we’re asking these questions reinforces how troubling this situation is.

By the way, you might start seeing some Pro Football Network colleagues commenting now and then on the page. This has been a gradual, season-long transition. And as always, if you feel compelled to address someone's comment / answer a question, go for it.
