For some of us, yesterday can best be summed up byBrian Hoyer outperforming more than a half-dozen starting QBs. For others, key guys rose to the occasion to lead us to victory. For all of us, key moments and results have transformed how we should value more than 100 players. So let’s examine a few of my favorite fantasy storylines.
Aaron Jones' injury could be minor, or it could be something more. You all know my longstanding views on RB handcuffs, as well as how much I pushed folks to draft three handcuffs in particular: Tony Pollard, Alexander Mattison, and AJ Dillon. I had all three at one point in my league. Packaged Pollard a few weeks ago for an underperforming Keenan Allen. Traded Mattison for Chuba Hubbard when I desperately needed a #2 RB in a week I needed to win.
But I've clung to Dillon. While Pollard and Mattison arguably has played better as starters, Dillon plays in an offense with only two high-end playmakers: Jones and Davante Adams. If Jones is forced to miss time, Dillon would be a featured offensive performer, and his activity in the passing game could make him a top-5 RB. We'll probably know more about Jones's outlook in the next 24 hours.
Elsewhere, as shared last week, I think D'Onta Foreman is the only current Tennessee RB to roster. Adrian Peterson is not the answer. Neither is Jeremy McNichols. While I'm not saying Foreman is ready to take over, he's the only one capable of being a bellcow. That's worth something.
Cam Newton! Dang you Cory Nedd to adding him this past week in our league. You're always one step ahead of me. I still believe he can be a QB1 the rest of the season. No, I'll be bolder: he *will* be a QB1 the rest of the season. Still a ton of talent, and a better offense than what he was forced to play with last season.
Rhamondre Stevenson, folks. Admittedly, I did not think he'd go off yesterday. But some of you know how much I've valued him as the most versatile RB in Bill Belichick's arsenal. If not for ball-control issues, he might have gotten more run weeks ago. It will be fascinating to see how he and Damien Harris are utilized going forward.
DeAndre Carter has back-to-back 6-target games for Washington and appears to be the #2 receiver with Dyami Brown and Curtis Samuel sidelined. If you're eager to land a WR4+, Carter is probably available in 99% of leagues.
Courtland Sutton is struggling and is a fantastic buy-low guy. DeVonta Smith is shining and is a great . . . hold. No one else is challenging him. Jalen Hurts needs him more than he needs anyone else on the Eagles. Maybe that's an exaggeration, but probably not.
Yesterday was the first time Russell Wilson has been shut out in 150 starts. Clearly he wasn't 100%, and it's a shame we had to see that performance. Wilson is approaching all-time-great status. Hopefully he's back at 100% for his next game.
Half of Justin Herbert's fantasy points (94.9) came in three of his nine games. In his other six contests he’s averaging 16.1 points. For context, Daniel Jones is averaging 16.1 points. While I’m not saying Herbert is like Jones, Herbert has not been close to the consistent QB1 fantasy managers had hoped for.
Finally, Tom Brady in four games at home: 18 TDs and two interceptions. Brady in five games on the road: nine TDs and five interceptions.
