Heading into Sunday of Week 8, the season was moving along pretty smoothly. Normal surprises: bargains, busts, injuries, etc. But in the span of a few days, the season has veered into the unprecedented.
The Henry Ruggs situation is devastating, tragic, and every similar adjective. There's no need to dwell on it here. It's been a brutally painful few weeks for the Raiders organization. But the league keeps churning, and the team will continue trying to win games. Beyond that, I'll wait until at least next week for Raiders fantasy talk.
Michael Thomas is out for the rest of this season. He was eligible to return Week 7. In some ways, the writing has been on the wall for months. In other ways, there was hope he could give New Orleans that extra offensive push. Instead, they'll roll with Marquez Callaway, Deonte Harris, and other wideouts and tight ends who realistically would not be starting on most/all other teams. Interestingly, in his tweet, Thomas suggested he was looking forward to playing again for New Orleans fans. His contract makes it tough for the Saints to part ways with him before 2023. Hopefully he'll return next summer mentally and physically ready to return to greatness, or at least something close to it.
Aaron Rodgers is out for this weekend due to COVID, and he also could miss Week 10. I'm bracing for news that other Packers could be COVID-positive too, so this might not be over. For now, Jordan Love is a must-add in 2QB leagues and a decent dart throw against Kansas City on Sunday. Also temper expectations, as the Packers controlled the ball for more than 37 minutes in their Week 8 victory over Arizona, thanks to 38 combined touches for Aaron Jones and A.J. Dillon. Don't be surprised if Green Bay takes a similar approach as they try to keep the Chiefs' offense off the field--and as they try to keep Love from doing too much in his first NFL game.
