Final Thoughts Heading into Sunday Week 12

I might miss the playoffs this year for the first time since 2012. It's a streak I've been proud of, and if I lose today/tomorrow, it might be over.

So let's remember that as good as we think we are, sometimes things happen. I couldn't recover from early exits last week by three of my starters: CeeDee Lamb, A.J. Brown, and Michael Carter. All three were out again this week. I'm assembling the best team I can. Win or lose, I've tried my best. And that's okay.

So while some of you are crushing it, I know some of you are throwing up your hands. And for what it's worth, I'm in hand-throwing mode, too. So let's do what we can today. There are plenty of good-upside guys on waivers in nearly every league. No excuses for giving up. Make your opponent sweat and hope things break right. (Although my opponent this week, Cory Nedd, seems unflappable. So I'm not doing enough to psyche him out.)

Anyway, some of you asked me last week about DFS lineups. With so many players facing game-time decisions, I can't come up with optimal DFS lineups late Saturday night (it's almost midnight as I'm writing this). If Aaron Jones sits, A.J. Dillon could be great. But I can't include Dillon not knowing Jones's status. The same goes for Elijah Mitchell and Jeff Wilson. The same goes for Damien Harris and Rhamondre Stevenson. And so on. So I'm left with a much smaller player pool consisting of guys who are definitely playing, and that's no way to recommend an ideal DFS lineup.

That said, I can try to get pretty close to optimal, just as I've been doing for Pro Football Network these past two months. I write DFS articles for them on Sundays, Mondays, and Thursdays. My article coming out later this morning features a lineup that includes a 49ers passing-game stack (Jimmy G., Deebo Samuel, and Brandon Aiyuke). Jimmy is the second-cheapest starting QB this week, and Aiyuk is a relatively inexpensive starter. Tournament lineups are obviously very different than 50/50 ones, which benefit from more hedges. Tournament lineups, on the other hand, benefit from well-placed stacks that create boom possibilities: if the Niners score 35+ points thanks to an effective passing attack, this lineup will have a good shot at winning pretty big.

And whether you have start/sit questions about league play or DFS lineups, or even a memorable opening line to your favorite NFL player if you meet him in an airport (e.g. "Mr. Lockett, can I buy you a croissant at Au Bon Pain?"), share your comment below. We'll keep responding to every question.

Good luck today.
