Week 8 Waiver Targets

One of the advantages of working at Pro Football Network is being part of a four-person fantasy team. The latest fantasy news always gets attention, and the big news always gets analyzed--first internally, and then on the PFN website and here. We're trying to make sense of what just happened, how managers like us should be reacting, and which scenarios will require which actions.

With waivers coming up for most of us, some of the biggest news today concerned Davante Adams getting placed on the COVID list. Then a couple hours ago, Allen Lazard was added to the list. As I understand it, both need to have two negative tests these next two days to be able to play this week (because remember, the Packers play Thursday).

This sets up a potential ripple effect of valuations and re-valuations. If Adams and Lazard sit, can anyone truly trust Randall Cobb or any other wideout? Is Robert Tonyan a must-start? Can we bank on Aaron Rodgers as a top-10 QB? Conversely, is this a time to try to trade for Adams, especially if your opponent needs a win and doesn't have enough firepower if Adams can't play?

Fantasy is a chess match we mostly play alone. Most things happen outside our control. We simply need to find the most value with the things we can control.

In other news, Jerry Jeudy is expected to return this weekend. That's great news for him, obviously. It's not great news for Courtland Sutton. And it's amazing news for Teddy Bridgewater, who's one of my two favorite QB waiver adds this week, and who might produce his best game of the season against Washington: www.profootballnetwork.com/fantasy-football-sleepers-2021-nflwk-8/

Also a big fan of the underappreciate Devin Singletary, who has three consecutive great matchups, and who's actually run much better than Zack Moss. Moss is winning the TD battle 4-1. But Singletary is a sneaky RB3 the next few weeks.

And sticking with Buffalo, TE Tommy Sweeney is an interesting case. Can he play the Dawson Knox role while Knox is sidelined? My short answer is "no." The former 7th-round draft pick is not close to Knox's playmaking level. Buffalo has plenty of pass-catchers. The Bills' easy schedule in weeks 8-10 will reduce the need to use Sweeney as much more than a blocker.
