It's past midnight as I'm writing this, so will keep this short. Wow, what a game. A shocker from where I'm sitting, though I know some of you anticipated a Green Bay victory. In hindsight, I suppose we shouldn't be too surprised. Kyler Murray was playing with a wrap on a finger on his throwing hand, DeAndre Hopkins' hamstring was still bothering him, and Aaron Jones was asked to do almost everything--and he did.
Meanwhile, Jeff Oelke wins the closest-score competition, predicting a 26-23 Packer victory (vs. 24-21). So, impressively close. Hats off to you, Jeff. Looking forward to seeing you go for two-in-a-row on Monday. And an honorable mention for Tyler Nelson, who guessed 27-24.
Honestly, things started getting weird when Antoine Wesley got the first three targets of his career. Arizona is stacked on offense. Seven guys, plus Kyler, who can be dangerous with the football. It always amazes me when somebody comes out of nowhere and contributes, especially on an undefeated team that--one would think--has all the personnel it needs to execute its game plan.
The same goes for Green Bay, although the circumstances were more dire. Juwann Winfree saw his first NFL action (seriously, two receivers getting their first looks in a marquee midseason matchup?!). And Winfree made the most of it by leading all Packer wideouts in targets (six), receptions (four), and yards (30). Perhaps he’ll find a role next year if the offense goes through an upheaval, as some anticipate.
Pay close attention to Hopkins' status for Week 9. We all know hamstring injuries can linger. And Robert Tonyan hurt his leg, and that has the potential to end his fantasy streamability, at least in the short term. Also keep an eye on Kyler's finger. And congrats to all you 1972 Dolphin fans. You can breathe easy for another season.
