Latest RB Fantasy News

For all of you Friday evening people, here are a few things happening today that might impact your fantasy worlds. Frankly, there's always too much to talk about. So let's focus on the all-important RBs:

As of a few hours ago, CMC is officially doubtful for Week 5. He has a good shot of returning Week 6. Also remember the Panthers have a brutal fantasy playoff schedule. The closer CMC is to returning, the higher his trade value. You could do worse than unload him for a back-end RB1 and, possibly, a top 20-24 WR. Chuba Hubbard is expected to start again. The opposing Eagles are middling against the run. I'm expecting Hubbard to outperform last week's output, cracking double-digit scoring. He is a great sell-high to a 1-3 or 0-4 team in your league that desperately needs a #2 RB and a win.

Joe Mixon remains questionable and will test out his ankle Saturday. As mentioned earlier, this has the potential to be a messy situation. Samaje Perine could start if Mixon sits, but that doesn't mean Perine would finish. Chris Evans could poach touches. Perine could flop. It's all a toss-up. Ideally, Mixon is good to go for 18+ touches. If he isn't, be realistic about Perine's upside.

Chase Edmonds is officially a game-time decision. Clearly, that's not good. The surprisingly productive James Conner could be a terrific fantasy spot-start if Edmonds sits. Otherwise, a healthy and starting Edmonds has to remain in lineups given what he's done so far, in an offense that shows no signs of slowing down.

Dalvin Cook is also a game-time decision. Alexander Mattison is a strong potential RB1 if he gets the nod. Cook is somewhere between buy-low/buy-high and sell-low/sell-high. It depends on your perspective. When starting, he's top-3 easily. So maybe he'll be fine the rest of the season. Or maybe you're tired of wondering each week and simply want to unload him. Normally managers are trading handcuffs to the person who has the starter. This is one of those cases where the Cook manager might consider trading him to the whoever has Mattison.

Antonio Gibson played through a shin injury last week and is questionable for Sunday. It would take an unexpected setback to keep him out. J.D. McKissic remains a fantastic complementary piece to any fantasy roster, though he likely wouldn't be the bellcow if Gibson ever had to sit.

Elijah Mitchell has been limited in practice. Again, Trey Sermon is a starter, but only for now. This is a messy backfield, as it has been since July.

Finally, Josh Jacobs is expected to be fine for Sunday. By "fine," I mean healthy. But that doesn't make him a fine fantasy starter. He remains a risky bellcow in a backfield that could transition to an RBBC if he doesn't get going soon.
