The shocking news story today is a reportedly imminent deal between the Dolphins and Texans, which would send Deshaun Watson to Miami. The news was broken by Houston Chronicle reporter John McClain, not to be confused with New York police detective John McClane, who I've always imagined is close to who Bruce Willis is in real life. But I digress.
If you know me, you know my personal views on all this. Fantasy-wise, it's important to understand the impact of such a trade. Miami is a reeling franchise. Last year was a fluke--an earned fluke, but a fluke. They're yielding 9.3 more points per game than the Jets are. This is a bad team that is probably as far away from relevance as Houston is. And this report suggests Dolphins management has little-to-no faith in Tua Tagovailoa as their "QB of the future."
Elsewhere, a lot of talented players not practicing today, including Saquon Barkley, Antonio Gibson, Tyreek Hill, and Antonio Brown. I picked up A.J. Green off waivers this morning in the hope he can continue to hit 14+ points. In many leagues it might be hard to find a semi-reliable 10+ point guy. This is where things stand with so many injuries and six teams on bye.
I have a piece coming out on PFN tomorrow on Donovan Peoples-Jones and whether he's startable. Other writers have shared terrific thoughts on the other Thursday night players. I'll discuss the Browns-Broncos preview more tomorrow morning. It's hard to comprehend just how quickly Cleveland's Super Bowl aspirations have collapsed. While it's a bit too soon to panic, this team has all six of their divisional games remaining against the Ravens, Steelers, and Bengals, plus road games in New England and Green Bay. Can they go 5-3 in those contests? If they go only 4-4, they'd need to run the table on their other games to finish 11-7, which would make them a borderline playoff contender.
