Hello evening crowd. Well I'm hurting today with news that Antonio Brown not only could miss another week, but possibly more after the bye. He's been included in trade discussions in recent days, but the latest news means I'm no longer shopping him. Best to hold and hope he can return for the stretch run of the regular season. He's averaging a little over 19 points per game. Some of that is because Gronk has been out, and some is due to Brown having great chemistry with Tom Brady. Doesn't hurt that for many years he was the best fantasy WR for a reason.
Bigger news: Davante Adams is reportedly out for Week 8 (tomorrow's game). Quite a shocker compared to where we were Sunday night, looking forward to the 7-0 Cardinals face the new-and-improved (I guess) 6-1 Packers. With Allen Lazard also out, there's an opening for Marquez Valdes-Scantling if he returns. Randall Cobb is probably the most appealing wideout option. Equanimeous St. Brown and Amari Rodgers would be desperation plays. Realistically, Robert Tonyan and Mercedes Lewis could see 10+ targets combined, while Aaron Jones--and maybe A.J. Dillon if his self-destruction in Week 7 doesn't damage his standing--could see a heavy load.
Of course, we can throw some of that out the window if game script favors the Cardinals, who have looked almost unstoppable. Yes, they won by only one point over the Vikings in Week 2, thanks to Minnesota missing a 37-yard field goal attempt as time expired. But they have three extraordinary road wins (when you consider the final scores): 38-13 over the Titans, 37-14 over the Browns, and 37-20 over the Rams. Green Bay will be in trouble tomorrow, so we'll see if Jones and Dillon are phased out.
Elsewhere, Terry McLaurin didn't practice today. Not a concern yet. Something to monitor tomorrow and Friday. Even if he has "limited" practices, he should be fine for this weekend. But remember, a late-week hamstring injury almost derailed him last Sunday. This time it's an ankle. The way this team is going, I've already expressed concern about Antonio Gibson finishing the season playing in meaningless games. The same might happen to McLaurin. The final two regular season games are being played in 2022. A late-season ACL tear could compromise a star's availability for next September. Something teams might think about when we get into December.
Michael Gallup is back at practice. His eventual return will impact CeeDee Lamb, Amari Cooper, and/or Dalton Schultz. For context, in Dak Prescott's five starts last season, Gallup had 17 catches for 348 yards. Pretty impressive, right? During that same stretch, Amari had 39 for 424 yards, while CeeDee had 29 for for 433. Amari and CeeDee were top-14 WRs even with Gallup on the field. So it will be interesting to see who, if anyone, takes the biggest hit.
