And . . . we're back. For another season. Seems strange to some of us. Not so strange to others. But here we are. Ready to compete. Ready to win. Because while winning doesn't solve problems, it sure beats losing.
These next 170-or-so days you'll get the same daily content you've known and loved/hated/meh'd for a long time--some of you as long as eight years (JS, DH, etc. . . . you know who you are). You might see some guest columns from some very fantasy-savvy folks who've been on this page for a while. And for the fourth consecutive year, the rock-solid commenting team--Tommy Barnett, Robbie Lange, Joel Verzosa, Aaron Weaver, and Matt Weavil--will join me in giving our two cents on every question you throw our way. Of course, if you ask a question five minutes before the opening kickoff, we might not get to it. But 24 hours before? Or even an hour before? Hey, that's why we're here.
Speaking of why we're here: This continues to be a tough time for some of you/us. Candidly, if I weren't running this blog, I'd seriously considering sitting out 2021. But I started this blog for three reasons: (1) to promote a book that has to be out of circulation by now, (2) to see if my fairly unique take on fantasy football--and on the value of community over "we're the experts and you're not" type of thinking--would resonate, and (3) as a form of escapism. A fantasy football season can be frustrating, annoying, regrettable, and so on. But in the end, it's pretend. And I don't know about you, but I find I need that now and then--and this year as much as ever.
So I'm diving into the fantasy water. It's cold, but the shock will wear off, and then it'll feel just right.
Tomorrow I'll kick off the annual "32 teams in 32 days"--a first look at undervalued and overvalued players. What's that? Trey Lance (QB-23 ADP) will be a top-10 QB if he earns the Week 1 starting nod? Yeah, I've missed writing stuff like that.
I'm also working on the annual preseason fantasy rankings and will distribute them to subscribers by the beginning of August. As always, donations are welcomed (creating it is a huge time investment), and you can sign up by clicking the sign-up button above or by going to www.fantasyfootballforwinners.com. But if your financial situation is tough, please don't donate. Every year I say the same thing: This will never be a pay-to-play page. I could have monetized this site a long time ago. It's not worth it. Preserving this community is more important. So donate if you can/want, and don't if you can't/won't. You'll all be treated equally regardless.
And to those participating in the FF4W Premier Fantasy Football League, get ready for the long-awaited season 3. And if by tomorrow morning it's clear that we have a few available spots, I'll open it up to first-come, first-serve waitlisters. So if you haven't yet expressed interest but are 100% committed to competing in a free league that mandates a full season of effort--even if you start off 2-9 and your top three draft picks are on IR--e-mail me at fantasyfootballforwinners@gmail.com and tell me you want in. I'll put you on the waitlist and will let you know within a week if there's room this year.
Welcome back, everybody. It's been energizing to see so many familiar people comment and message. We don't really "know" each other, but we kinda do. And the "kinda do" is what keeps this community going. So thanks as always for being a part of it.
