Week 9 Thursday Night Football Recap

San Francisco never had a chance.  It was clear coming in, and it was clearer going out.  The lone bright spots for the defending Super Bowl runner-ups were Richie James and Jerick McKinnon.  McKinnon entered the contest with 108 rushing yards on his previous 41 carries which, if you're good at math or have a calculator, comes to an abysmal 2.6 yards per carry.  But he nabbed his sixth score on only 83 touches and outplayed JaMycal Hasty, who's fallen these past two games when it's mattered most.

Meanwhile James, a former seventh rounder, had a better game than most NFL receivers ever will.  If somehow Deebo Samuel, Brandon Aiyuk, and Kendrick Bourne can't go next week, James will be shut down by Marshon Lattimore.  Otherwise, he'll return to unstartability.

For Green Bay, those with Aaron Jones had a tough pre-kickoff call to make: Do you start a guy returning from an injury who might not be in for a full load, or roll the dice based on high TD potential?  Fielding questions yesterday, I urged readers to start him if they didn't have an RB2+ available.  It was a hedge move: his ceiling was as an elite RB1, and his floor was as a low-usage / no-touchdown RB3 in a blowout.  As it turned out, he'll finish this week probably as a mid-range or low-end RB2.  The good news is, he gets Jacksonville next and should be ready to roll.

Elsewhere, Aaron Rodgers now has a 24/0 TD/INT line in seven games and an 0/2 line against Tampa Bay.  His 48/4 season pace is insane to think about.

And in his last three games Davante Adams has a 30/422/6 line, which is obviously even more insane.  A healthy Adams could make the case for being fantasy's #1 receiver.

Back to San Fran, I'm honestly not sure what you do with Raheem Mostert at this point.  With New Orleans up next, this team could be 4-6 before their starting RB returns.  He's signed on the cheap for 2021.  Do they call it a season if they lose to the Rams and Bills in weeks 12 and 13--right before you need him most?  I'm generally wary of holding injured RBs when their bellcow role isn't assured whenever they're back.  I'd try to sell high, if that's still possible.
