Yesterday's news ranged from the largely irrelevant (the Giants signing Dante Pettis) to largely "What the . . .?" As of writing this (as always these days, well after midnight), Thursday Night Football is expected to happen. But the Niners--already down three RBs, their all-world TE, and a starting WR--are losing two more wideouts: Brandon Aiyuk and Kendrick Bourne. They also won't have starting tackle Trent Williams. Oh, and they won't have Jimmy G., but that doesn't really count these days.
There is absolutely nothing to lose streaming the otherwise unstreamable Packers DST tonight. Trent Taylor, Richie James, Ross Dwelley, and the temporarily uninjured Jordan Reed will lead the aerial "attack" with QB Nick Mullens, while JaMycal Hasty and Jerick McKinnon will do their best to move the chains and keep Green Bay's potent offense off the field. If the Niners fall behind early and are forced to throw, this could get ugly.
Not that Green Bay's in great shape. Aaron Jones is questionable, and his absence would put Dexter Williams and Tyler Ervin on the hot seat (or possibly, on a sideline seat so they can quietly watch the game). Aaron Rodgers has strong 4-TD potential in this one. If Allen Lazard returns and starts, he'll set up shop as a solid streamer.
Interestingly, the NFC West is strong enough to send all four teams to the postseason this year (thanks to the addition of a seventh conference playoff team). But they've probably been hurt by injuries more than any other team, and they have the Saints and Rams on deck, as well as the Bill and Seahawks later this season. They probably need to win two of their next three, and that first one won't happen tonight.
