The regular season begins in 12 days. Several players are questionable heading toward Week 1. But everyone in the 49-60 ADP range is on track. There's some major title-supporting talent here. Let's examine who might be the biggest bargain and bust of the group:
49 Tyler Lockett SEA (6) WR21
50 Devin Singletary BUF (11) RB23
51 D.K. Metcalf SEA (6) WR22
52 Dak Prescott DAL (10) QB3
53 Darren Waller LV (6) TE5
54 Kyler Murray ARI (8) QB4
55 D.J. Chark JAC (7) WR23
56 DeVante Parker MIA (11) WR24
57 Deshaun Watson HOU (8) QB5
58 T.Y. Hilton IND (7) WR25
59 Russell Wilson SEA (6) QB6
60 Stefon Diggs BUF (11) WR26
If you're like me, your eyes immediately go to the four QBs, any one of whom could be top-3 this season (or put another way, #3 if Lamar Jackson and Patrick Mahomes meet expectations). The concern here is gap potential. Last year the #2 fantasy QB (Dak) averaged a shade over four points per game more than the #12 QB (Tom Brady). In 2018 the gap was 4.5 points per game. In 2017 the gap was a little under three points per game.
I think the only QB in this group with major (i.e. 375+ point) potential is Dak. Some would wisely argue Murray could be that good, but I don't see it. Dak has a perfect storm of talent around him, and already has proven to be an elite performer. I also love the Lockett / Metcalf stack, though it's hard to choose just one as my top bargain. And I want to believe D.J. Chark can match his mid-range WR2 numbers from last year. But is he capable of jumping into the WR1 mix?
I really racked my brain over this one, and ended up back at Dak. No other guy on this list offers even semi-reliable positional eliteness. You can find potential RB2s and WR2s in the next round, but you won't be able to find an obvious top-5 QB. Dak should improve on 2019's numbers, making him a top-30 overall player and clear bargain in round five.
On the bust side, beware of Devin Singletary. With rookie Zack Moss catching balls and possibly vulturing some goal-line looks, and with Josh Allen continuing to run, Singletary needs more than last year's 15 touches per game to finish as an RB2 or better. Every other player in this group has a ceiling higher than Singletary's. He's my biggest round-5 bust.
