Is Kyler Murray really this good? He's now sitting just behind the untouchable Lamar Jackson and Patrick Mahomes with a QB-3 ADP. This bullish thinking seems almost entirely predicated on two factors. First, he should continue to develop, building off of last year's eighth-best numbers. Second the team added the very elite DeAndre Hopkins, giving Murray a true #1 to pair with the ascending Christian Kirk and top-10-receiver-of-all-time Larry Fitzgerald (who isn't washed out yet). Meanwhile, Kenyan Drake is an underrated pass-catcher out of the backfield, and Dan Arnold could be a sneaky 50/500/5 guy if gets the starting nod.
All this to say, Murray appears to be in great shape. We know he can run as well or better than any quarterback not named Lamar, and he's primed to build off his 3,722/20/12 line.
So why am I having trouble ranking him third? Why do I sense that if Mahomes and Lamar jump off the board, I'm better off waiting on a QB and grabbing a high-upside RB at a comparable ADP like Jonathan Taylor or David Montgomery, or even someone like Keenan Allen (overall 48 ADP compared to Murray's 47)?
It's also interesting that Hopkins owns a WR-3 ADP. Doesn't that seem a little steep? Throughout his career, Hopkins hasn't had to partner much with a strong (and healthy) #2, and he's enjoyed 150+ targets in each of the past five seasons. Murray already has a year of chemistry with Kirk and Fitz (and the franchise's tertiary talent). Can we really expect Hopkins to be a weekly #1? Because with Kirk's WR ADP at 39 and Fitz's at 66, the fantasy universe believes Hopkins is the clear-cut #1. No questions asked. Open-and-shut case.
I'm not buying it. In fact, I'm more likely to believe Murray's QB-3 ranking than Hopkins' WR-3 ranking. Hopkins definitely should be the #1, but I see the gap shrinking in Arizona.
What do you think? Are you all in on this pairing? Or are you letting them slide to your opponents?
