Week 15 Monday Night Football Recap

In the NFC title game vs. the Rams earlier this year, Drew Brees and the Saints likely missed out on a Super Bowl appearance because of an egregious no-call. In a rematch nine months later, Brees was knocked out for six weeks. Last night, the all-time-great became the all-time greatest TD passer in history, with perhaps the most impressive QB performance in history: Yes, quarterbacks have thrown for more yards and more TDs. And we all know some have had nearly unprecedented production on the ground.

But 29-for-30? And his one incompletion was a throwaway? That simply doesn't happen. In fact, the previous best completion percentage on 30+ attempts was Derek Carr (29-for-32). And he had only 288 yards and one touchdown. Interestingly, Jared Cook went 4-49 in that game as a Raider. Last night as a Saint he went 4-54. I love statistical coincidences.

Brees is now netting over 20 fantasy points per game this season--right around his 10-year average. Meanwhile, Michael Thomas has caught an insane 84% of his targets and is on pace for one of the five or six greatest WR seasons of the decade. And he's only 26. On the downside, Alvin Kamara continued his late-season slump: 12.4, 6.3, and 13.1 points. As a universal early-/mid-first rounder this summer, he's taken a backseat at the worst possible time for many managers.

The same can be said for Indy's enigmatic Marlon Mack, who's averaging only one reception per game, making him almost as TD-dependent as any top-20 RB. He's scored under 10 points in four of his last five contests. In fact, when he's scored this year, he's eclipsed 16 points in all but one game. And when he hasn't scored, he's scored in single-digits in all but one game. Remember that heading into next year's draft.

Finally, T.Y. Hilton's return could not have been more anticlimactic. Many managers held onto him (or guys like A.J. Green) hoping for a big push during the fantasy playoffs. A well-worn 30-year-old who's never been a high-volume scorer, T.Y. will be overdrafted next year. Unless the Colts upgrade at quarterback, he can't be counted on as a top-25 receiver.
