Contrarian Prediction #12: Case Keenum (QB-28 ADP) Will Be a Top 18 QB

Somebody has to get picked last. That's what I learned in third-grade kickball, and that's what we see every summer on draft day.

But unlike third-grade kickball, you can be even worse than last. You can be un-pickable. By the time the season starts, there will be roughly 500 NFL players at QB, RB, WR, and TE. More than half will be unrostered in a high majority of leagues. Face it: if you're selecting Miami QB Bryce Petty in the 43rd round, your draft is too long. And Bryce probably owes you a beer and a hug.

And too often, several draftable players are largely forgotten in fantasy circles. Maybe they're not getting enough buzz on the Twittersphere. Or maybe they've remained healthy; full health is usually newsworthy only for those recovering from serious injuries. Whatever the reason, these afterthoughts can offer huge value when tacked onto the end of your roster.

Case Keenum is one such afterthought. A college hero and NFL journeyman, he found the perfect landing spot last year on the QB-needy Vikings. Keenum wrapped up the season as the 14th highest scoring QB, and during one stretch racked up double-digit touchdowns in six of seven games. He's a highly accurate passer and has now thrived in a system with two highly functional wideouts. This year his offense once again will feature two highly functional wideouts: Denver's Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders. From 2014 to 2016, both were no worse than WR2s (and more often than not were WR1s).

For perspective, while DT's and Sanders' big '14 numbers were due in part to Peyton Manning (in his final good season), these receivers finished 11th and 19th, respectively, in 2015 despite Denver finishing second-to-last in QB rating (76.3). They were then 16th and 20th in 2016 despite Denver finishing 21st in QB rating. And DT was 16th again last year (with Sanders finishing outside the top 50 in 12 games) despite another second-to-last QB rating.

Why is this relevant? Because DT and Sanders haven't had a good QB throwing to them since 2014. Yet, aside from Sanders' lost 2017 campaign, both have remained weekly fantasy starters. Keenum is a significant upgrade over Aged Peyton, Fill-In Siemian, Crazy-Contract Osweiler, and Not-Long-for-This-League Lynch. He will manage this offense far better than people realize, thanks to two undervalued aerial weapons. 93% of 106 experts rank him 19th or worse, while an astounding 56% believe he's a top 24-30 QB. His QB ADP is a truly ridiculous 27.

Don't forget the forgotten. Keenum will be a top-18 QB, making him a weekly starter in two-QB leagues and a fantastic streamer in one-QB leagues.
