It’s Sleeper Saturday, so let’s look at some of the top sleepers heading into Sunday’s games:
At QB, Jacoby Brissett is a guy many of you have heard me push these past few weeks. ESPN’s composite of experts rank him 18th this weekend. I’ve got him a few notches higher. I also like ESPN’s 12th ranked QB, Eli Manning, who’s thrown the ball 96 times the past two games, with five TDs to show for it. Expect more high volume and top 10 production.
The Colts and Giants are also well represented among RB sleepers. You know my thoughts on Frank Gore: sell high before it’s too late. Moreover, as one of my favorite fantasy experts, Evan Silva, pointed out on his page yesterday, Gore has only two rushing attempts inside the opposing 10-yard line. His backups, Robert Turbin and Marlon Mack, have three each. ESPN ranks Turbin and Mack outside the top 50 among RBs this week, but don’t believe it: both of these guys are terrific dart throws if you’re desperate (for example, if you can’t field an RB3+ in your #2 RB slot). Sure, one of them could score zero points. But the other will have been worth the TD-dependent risk.
Giants rookie Wayne Gallman is also a nice sleeper with Paul Perkins out, Shane Vereen mostly invisible, and Orleans Darkwa failing to overwhelm. I view Gallman as an RB3 who could reach an RB2 plateau if he earns 18+ touches. The Giants are desperate for simply a mediocre running game. In my draft this summer, I passed on Perkins and grabbed Gallman late. We’re now seeing this depth chart transition play out.
And Corey Clement—yes, Corey Clement—is my favorite “What? Who?” pick of the week. Wendell Smallwood might be forced to miss Week 5, opening the door for Clement to build on his 10-carry performance last weekend as a complement to the crazily ascending (for now) LeGarrette Blount.
Remember Nelson Agholor? One of the biggest WR producers in Week 1, Agholor has mustered respectable WR3/4 numbers since then, yet ESPN ranks him 57th this week. What gives? Available in 80% of ESPN leagues, Agholor is a great play if you don’t have a top 40 WR on hand.
What about Rashard Higgins? (“What about him?”) He’s an afterthought on ESPN’s rankings, sitting in no-man’s-land at #56. But with Kenny Britt expected to be sidelined, Higgins is a solid one-week rental; he’ll earn closer to his Week 2 breakout stats than his Weeks 3/4 irrelevant stats.
And quit on Brandon Marshall at your own risk. Ranked 41st this week, he has enough targets and TD potential to be in your top 30.
