The Impact of Cameron Meredith's Injury

Cameron Meredith's out for the season, turning a questionable offense (generously speaking) into a troubled one. Jordan Howard proved last year he can post monster stats without the aid of a consistent passing game. But defenses will adjust, as they always do. Chicago might regret letting Brian Hoyer go this offseason and putting its modest fortunes into the hands of Mike Glennon. And no, Mitch Tubrisky won't be any better, at least not this year.

Kevin White and Kendall Wright at the natural fantasy beneficiaries of Meredith's loss. To a lesser extent, Howard might earn a few more touches, along with a smattering of part-time receivers. Wright is now four seasons removed from his 1,000+ yard breakout. At 27, he's running out of chances to be "the guy" or at least "a guy." Boasting a 105/343 WR/Overall ADP (granted, that was before Meredith's injury), you might be hard-pressed to know anyone in the world who drafted him before yesterday. If this were the regular season, he'd be a fashionable waiver add. For now, he's a WR5 with WR3/4 upside. He won't win you a title, but he'll hold the line while you're waiting to add a better wideout.

White, on the other hand, is a wild card. 2015's #7 overall selection thus far has been a poor man's Sammy Watkins: less effective when on the field and less healthy off of it. But the talent's there. If you're playing for upside, draft White. He has massive upside (WR2) if he fulfills his potential in Year 3. But a lot needs to happen first. He'll start the season as a WR4/5.

Second-to-last reminder: 100+ of you have joined the 3rd annual FF4W Survivor Pool. This isn't one of those "three strikes and you're out" competitions. Miss one and you're gone. (Cue inspirational music, like that song at the end of "Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story," when his wife Linda--played by Lauren Holly--expresses what we're all feeling at the 2-hour mark of this epic film: "All these years later, people still wonder about how he died. I prefer to remember how he lived.") To all of you out there who believe in something greater than yourself, the 3rd annual FF4W Survivor Pool is that thing, believe it or not. We've already surpassed last year's participation number. But I sense a few more of you want the same things the rest of us want: glory, and a backup plan in case our fantasy draft goes poorly.
