“Today is your day. Your
mountain is waiting; so get on your way.”
Dr. Seuss was victorious in 11 of 14 trips to the fantasy title
game. Little-known fact, overshadowed by
his illustrious children’s book career. Seuss exhibited the kind of attitude we should all aspire to. And on a day like today, when many of you
will learn whether you’re a champion or something far, far worse (“not a
champion”), it’s useful to heed his words.
“Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to
get better. It’s not.”
“The more that you read, the more things you will know.”
If you want to win, you need to care.
A lot. Do a ton of research and
apply it thoughtfully.
“Sometimes the questions are complicated and the answers are simple.”
How many tough sit-start questions have you dealt with this
season? I’ve probably had 40-50, and
that might be conservative. Of those,
about once a week I’m continually racking my brain, going back and forth
between two or three guys. The key is to
not get buried in the possibilities. The
best answer is usually the simplest, which is why our first impulse often proves
to be the correct one.
“Fantasy is a necessary ingredient in living.”
Of course it is.
Play the percentages today, just like every day. Remember to give guys on the Patriots and
Saints a bump, because there should be plenty of TDs to go around for each. And finally:
Ignore the naysayers who say “nay” to your chances
The well-timed winner is the one who advances
Your players are good—plenty good ‘nuff to score
To show your whole league what this season was for
