Tuesday Trader: LeGarrette Blount, Marcus Mariota, Spencer Ware, Carlos Hyde, and Lamar Miller

Sell-high guys are often identifiable by the enormity of their production. Who’s on pace to nearly break records? Who’s far outperforming his own career averages?

LeGarrette Blount comes to mind. The 29-year-old is on pace for 323 rushing attempts (his career high is 201), 21 TDs (career high: 7), and 3.7 yards per carry (tied for his worst season—2012—and well below his career average). The fact is, Blount is a TD-dependent RB who happens to have dominated near the goal line. Some would argue there’s no stopping him. I’d argue such production isn’t realistically sustainable.

I wrote about Marcus Mariota yesterday. An incredible run, and two soft matchups upcoming. What could be better? I know: trading him. The fourth highest scoring fantasy QB, Mariota closes the season on a Week 13 bye before facing Denver, Kansas City, Jacksonville, and (if your league competes in Week 17), Houston. He will regress. So if you can trade him for high QB1 value, do it.
In the buy-low camp, it might be too late with Russell Wilson. But of course he’s returned to his old self once he got healthy. He’ll return QB1 production going forward.

If your opponent is tired of holding onto Spencer Ware, who’s been deceptively inconsistent this season (only three games with 8+ fantasy points), I’d try to get him. Ware remains the only legitimate, healthy starting RB in Kansas City. In other words, no one is about to replace him.

Remember Carlos Hyde? He was a top 3 fantasy RB before getting hurt. DuJuan Harris might have ascended to a complementary back role, but it’s still Hyde’s backfield. When healthy, he’s a must-start, and probably can be had for much less than he’s worth.

Finally, Lamar Miller has been losing touches in Houston. I’m chalking it up to the team easing him along due to injuries—and to counterbalance his huge early season workload. Miller has a good shot at reaching 1,500 total yards this season. Don’t think Alfred Blue and Akeem Hunt are turning this into a three-headed backfield. Once Miller is healthy, he’ll return to RB1 prominence.
