The Tuesday Trader: Undervalued and Overvalued QBs

In today’s edition of the Tuesday Trader, I’m focusing on very undervalued and very overvalued QBs.  Yesterday I discussed Marcus Mariota, whose back-to-back dominating performances have made him the second-most-added QB this week in ESPN leagues.  In two-QB leagues you can probably get solid talent for him, especially with a terrific matchup against the Colts, and particularly if your trade partner is 2-4 and desperate for a win.

Tom Brady continues to shock (me) and amaze (me).  Is he really an elite QB?  If one of your opponents thinks so, man, I’d love to cash out now.  Brady, Matt Forte, and Demaryius Thomas for Jameis Winston, Melvin Gordon, and Julio Jones?  Yes please.  After this week’s game against Pittsburgh, Brady will play in Buffalo, then face a bye, then match up against Seattle.  A road game against Denver looms in Week 15.  Brady will continue to have some great games, but he won’t be an elite QB the rest of the way (controversial, I know, but I’m tripling down on my preseason prediction).

Speaking of Winston, look at his remaining schedule and then look at two of his first three games of the season.  Tampa Bay’s QB isn’t as bad as what we’ve seen these past two weeks.  I’m trying to buy low on a guy with 2-3 TD potential in most of this season’s remaining games.

When I traded Tajae Sharpe and Derek Carr earlier this season for Phillip Dorsett and Dak Prescott, I thought Dorsett would be the prize—a speedy #2 receiver in a pass-friendly offense.  Outside of one game (a big catch that ended up giving me the win), Dorsett has been worthless.  But who would have thought Prescott would be the biggest prize?  (Hats off to you if you thought Prescott would be the biggest prize.)  Outperforming Carr these past few weeks, Dak has one of the easiest QB schedules remaining, with only one tough matchup (vs. Minnesota) and a load of easy ones.  Once Dez Bryant returns, Dak will cement his status as an every-week starter.  Think Tony Romo is returning?  Well, I no longer do.  This is now Dak’s team.

Finally, Russell Wilson’s injury recovery has scared a lot of fantasy footballers away.  If you’re desperate for a QB1, trade for him.  He led three TD drives Sunday that happened to end with RB scores.  So his poor numbers are a bit of an illusion.  Doug Baldwin will get his scores, as will Jimmy Graham, as will (eventually) Tyler Lockett.  Wilson’s mobility might be hindered in the coming weeks, but his offensive weapons will help carry him to, at least, top 14 production the rest of the way.
