Heading into today’s games, here are some guys I’m paying attention to
more—and less—than most:
After a few days of speculation, yesterday Jordan Reed was declared
inactive for today’s game. This is a far
more serious situation than some realize.
It marks Reed’s fifth NFL concussion. Last year a concussion kept him out two games. In 2013 it forced him onto injured
reserve. From a fantasy perspective, I’m
selling high on Reed; with nothing to go on but his history, I’m speculating
that Reed will miss several games this year.
Vernon Davis and possibly Niles Paul will get more snaps as a result,
and one could be worth adding in 14+ team leagues if Reed misses multiple games.
As I’m writing this, Sammie Coates is officially questionable to
play. In answering many of your
questions about Coates this week, I’ve been stipulating that Eli Rogers will be
a must-start if Coates sits. Even if
Coates plays, Rogers is a much better dart throw than most teams’ #3 receivers.
Dak Prescott is one or two good games away from displacing Tony Romo as
the Cowboys’ franchise QB. The rookie is
seventh in the NFL in QB fantasy points, with multiple TDs in three straight
contests. That he’s done most of his damage
without Dez Bryant on the field is remarkable.
I don’t love Prescott in today’s tough road matchup against the Packers,
but I do like his chances of helping fantasy owners during the fantasy playoffs
(with home games against the Bucs and Lions in weeks 15 and 16).
Are you starting Justin Forsett with confidence? I’m sorry to hear it. As all FF4W readers know, this site has repeatedly warned since June that Forsett won’t help fantasy teams this season. Even as a starter, he isn’t likely to exceed five points. Today Matthew Stafford will be throwing it about 50 times.
Today I’m expecting only modest numbers at best from Cameron
Meredith. The former undrafted free
agent broke out for 136 total yards and a score vs. one of the NFL’s worst pass
defenses. Today he’s facing one of the
league’s best. And keep in mind his Week
6 blowup came at the expense of Alshon Jeffery and Eddie Royal. While I’m expecting top 16 QB production from
Hoyer, there won’t be enough yards or TDs to go around. Expect Meredith to be the #3 or #4 offensive
option, capping his fantasy points at about six.
