In a couple hours I'm taking my 3-year-old to one of his friend's birthday parties. For the life of me, I'll never understand why parents plan birthday parties on NFL Sundays. I realize not everyone cares about football. But I need to do a better job lobbying parents to do Saturday birthdays--or maybe try some Skype birthdays so we can all participate while still watching the games.
Anyway, we've covered underrated/overrated QBs and RBs. Let's see what the WR picture looks like:
UNDERRATED:
(1) It's a bit silly to say that Antonio Brown (consensus 3rd ranked Week 17 WR) is "underrated." But since I've already predicted five TDs for Big Ben, we have to expect three for Brown, along with 14+ catches for 170 total offensive yards. Barring an injury, it will be a game to remember for--when his career ends--one of the greatest wide receivers in NFL history.
(2) With Ted Ginn questionable, someone will need to step up as Carolina's #2 receiver (after Greg Olsen). Corey Brown and Jerricho Cotchery have a shot. Devin Funchess's chances are better. Ranked 53rd this week, he's a terrific flier, especially in DFS.
(3) Terrance Williams (#49 WR) is in the same boat--worth a flier as a high-upside WR in a terrific matchup.
(4) Jarvis Landry (#16 WR) is a must-start because Ryan Tannehill will have little choice but to throw. A lot. Enter Landry--a poor man's Antonio Brown--who should net 10+ catches and 90+ yards. I'm eyeing a TD, which puts him on the top 10 map.
OVERRATED:
(1) Allen Robinson (#6 WR) has asserted himself as one of the best receivers in 2015, and there's little doubt this season's numbers will be his floor heading into 2016. But there's no way he's dominating today against the league's third ranked pass D--a motivated unit that's looked terrific in recent weeks and which needs a win today.
(2) Eric Decker (#8 WR) is an overreach, plain and simple. The Jets have a deceptively tough road matchup against the Bills. Has Decker been an incredible find for many fantasy managers this season? Absolutely. Will he go out on a high note? Absolutely not.
(3) Doug Baldwin (#11 WR) has had one of the greatest--if not the greatest--five-game stretches of any receiver in NFL history. He's scored 11 times during this period. In Randy Moss's historic 2007 season (1,493 yards and 23 TDs), he never had more than nine TDs in any five-game stretch. So let's celebrate Baldwin's achievement, and let's also ignore him today from a fantasy perspective. Arizona won't let him beat them.
Naturally, I won't be online much this morning. But I'll try to sneak a few peeks at my phone to answer whatever questions I can. Good luck.
