In recent weeks I've started developing a spreadsheet that I plan to roll out next summer. Updated each week, it would present 300+ player values from 0 to 7 (7 = elite positional talent) based on three criteria:
(1) Re-draft Trade Value
(2) Dynasty Trade Value
(3) Fantasy Playoff Value
Above is a snippet. The goal would be to cut down on some of your questions--not that I don't enjoy responding to every one. But in answering hundreds of questions each week, if 25-35% are covered by the "Comprehensive Player Value" tool, then it would make all this more manageable from a time perspective.
The idea is that if you get a trade offer, you can easily assess whether I'd accept or reject it in your shoes. For example, let's say in Week 7 you were offered Justin Forsett and Philip Rivers for Gio Bernard and Andy Dalton. If Forsett and Gio both had "4" ratings, Rivers had a "5," and Dalton had a "6," then I'd urge you to keep Gio and Dalton. In a dynasty league it might be even more evident, as Forsett's dynasty value is lower than the younger Gio's.
And if you're looking ahead to the fantasy playoffs, the spreadsheet would offer extra value in trade negotiations and waiver pickups. For example, I've talked before about Seattle's easy fantasy playoff schedule and how its personnel will get a meaningful bump compared to players on teams with tougher schedules (the Falcons, for example, which play Carolina twice this time of year). Having a cheat sheet for fantasy playoff schedules gives us an edge as early as draft day.
My first iteration included weekly values, but we're talking about 300+ players--simply no time in the early mornings or late evenings to keep something that comprehensive afloat.
So let me know what you think. Would this tool add real value to your daily and weekly thought processes? If there's legit support for it, I'll plan to roll it out starting next July or August--the same time as my pre-draft rankings.
