Week 9 Preview

Never a dull moment in fantasy football:

-- Colin Kaepernick's been benched (newsworthy only for your 2-QB leaguers who are forced to start him).  To put things in perspective, he's averaging fewer fantasy points per game than Kirk Cousins and Jameis Winston.

-- His replacement, Blaine Gabbert, has a career 66.8 passer rating.  So the Niners officially have the NFL's most anemic offense.  Wouldn't be far-fetched to say this team will average no more than one TD per game going forward.

-- Anquan Boldin and Torrey Smith are even more worthless (from a fantasy perspective) than they were a week ago.  Hard to imagine that's possible.

-- In the "fleeing a sinking ship" category is my #1 preseason bust, TE Vernon Davis.  One of my "bold" August predictions was that Davis would be a top 5 TE this year.  But now that he's landed in Denver, he could be a TE1 going forward.  For now, he's a speculative add for those lacking a top 6 TE.

-- David Cobb is expected to come off Injured Reserve this week, and has been a great bet to lead Tennessee's backfield.  But word out of Titan Land is that he's overweight.  So he's no longer a must-own RB in most leagues; he's simply someone to watch.

-- A kidney injury has sidelined Keenan Allen for what might be several weeks.  Malcom Floyd and Stevie Johnson get nice boosts, while Dontrelle Inman is a fantasy flier in very deep leagues.  And if Antonio Gates or Ladarius Green can play this week, they could be in for a 15-point day in an incredible matchup.

-- Brandon Marshall could miss Week 9.  That would make Eric Decker a must-start WR1/2, unless Ryan Fitzpatrick and Geno Smith can't play, in which case Decker will be a WR6/7.

-- DeSean Jackson is coming back this week!  He's like your high school buddy who always promises to come hang with you and your work friends, but then bails at the last minute.  Then he finally shows up one night, and you're thinking, "Do I even want him here?"  DJax is a perennial top 20 WR, but let's face it: He's as good a bet for 12+ yards as he is for less than three
