With an early game today, let's look around the league. First, some late-breaking news: Dion Lewis is expected to sit today (per Adam Schefter), making LeGarrette Blount a surprising must-start in most leagues. The Jets' run D is the best in the league. But if anyone can game plan for them, it's Bill Belichick. Expect 20-25 touches for Blount--unless Belichick, on a whim, decides that Brandon Bolden is his new starting RB.
The Stefon Diggs saga has ended up where it started. After practicing with the second team Thursday and getting lightly called out by OC Norv Turner, he's back to starting opposite Mike Wallace today. Diggs is a boom (10+ points)-bust (4 or less) today, as we try to figure out if he's a guy we can trust in the fantasy playoffs.
Aside from Diggs, I've fielded more questions about Christine Michael this week than about any other player. Each time I've made the same point: I'll believe it when I see it. Michael never cut it as Seattle's #3 RB. Should we suddenly expect him to be an RB1/2 in Dallas? Joseph Randle has been good, not great. But that's no reason to believe Michael will dominate. He's a high-risk, solid-reward RB for RB-needy managers. But I'd be wary about throwing him out there this week, given the sizable risks with respect to touches and yards.
Amari Cooper will rack up 120+ yards and two TDs today. I'm not keep on hyping up must-start players. But he might end up this week's #1 fantasy WR, as Derek Carr will be forced to lean on him with the Chargers putting up 30+ points.
It's easy to forget about WR Stevie Johnson, who's now unowned in more than 75% of ESPN leagues, and who enters this week as fantasy experts' (through Fantasy Pros' compilation) 49th best WR. He scored in each of his first two games and is very capable of posting WR3/4 numbers nearly every week. Assuming he's good to go today after missing two games with a hamstring injury, he's once again on the WR3/4 radar and is a must-add/stash in 14+ team leagues.
John Brown is expected to start today. But Michael Floyd is a fantastic flier for those without any decent flex options. The Cards have a great matchup. Floyd has good 60-yard / TD potential.
RB Branden Oliver appears to be in line for a start today in San Diego, as NFL Network's Ian Rapoport has just reported that Melvin Gordon is likely to sit. Remember, Gordon has experienced fumbling problems, so this might be the Chargers' way of letting their rookie work on the issue in practice--not when it counts. Oliver is a terrific DFS play and is an ok desperation RB3/flex. Just don't expect much, except maybe a cheap score. 9 PPR points is his expected ceiling.
