Week 6 Predictions

Three hours 'til game time. Wondering whether Player A will play today? My go-to source for up-to-the-minute info is Twitter. I'm not into endorsing sites, but it is what it is: A massive repository of minute-by-minute updates.

Most of you already know this, but to those who don't, you'll find things like "Player Z winced in pain and clutched his hamstring during pre-game warmups." If written by someone who covers that team professionally, well, that information is gold. If it's written by JoeBlow95, well, then go get confirmation somewhere else.

Now to some sleepers. My favorites this week--guys most people wouldn't think to start:

  • QB Matt Stafford: Finally an easier game after a brutal schedule.
  • QB Colin Kaepernick: A deceptively good matchup for a guy who's not the 10th worst QB in the league, despite his early season numbers.
  • RB Ameer Abdullah: He's been dropped left and right in leagues, but remains a very high-upside RB, especially with Theo Riddick likely to sit.
  • (If T.J. Yeldon sits) RB Denard Robinson: My favorite deep-dive sleeper (again, if Yeldon sits). He'll "split time" with Toby Gerhart, but he's fully capable of racking up 80 total yards and a score.
  • WR Josh Huff is this week's 57th ranked WR, according to Fantasy Pros' composite of 117 experts. But with Nelson Agholor out, he could get 7+ targets, meaning he's a good high-risk/high-reward wideout at the WR3/flex spot.
  • WR Stefon Diggs notched 87 yards on 10 targets two weeks ago against Denver. If Charles Johnson's injury keeps him sidelined--or even if it doesn't, a puff matchup vs. the Chiefs makes him a great risky start in most leagues.
  • TEs Brent Celek and Zach Ertz: The Giants are giving up a league-worst 304.2 yards per game. To say Sam Bradford has QB1 potential this week is an understatement. And I guarantee (as much as I can) that either Celek or Ertz will score tomorrow. Ertz is ranked 14th this week. Celek? 28th. That's insane. Celek gets the edge because he's on the field more often. But if you're desperate for a TE, start one of these guys, each of whom has good 13+ point potential.

And finally, does anyone care about TE Vernon Davis? Available in 83% of ESPN leagues--and ranked 25th this week--he's making me look flat-out dumb for promoting him this preseason. But I've said before and will keep saying: Barring an injury, worsening skills, or a depth chart shift, past performance has no bearing on future performance. What Davis has done (when healthy) to start the season has no bearing on what he could do the rest of the way. He remains a TE1 in my book; it's just taking time for him--and the rest of the Niners--to figure things out.
