The Impact of Jamaal Charles' Injury

Jamaal Charles' likely season-ending injury is one of many brutal blows we've witnessed this year.  He's now one of a long list of presumptive elite / near-elite positional players knocked out for the season, currently injured, or struggling to stay healthy: Lynch, Murray, McCoy, Dez, Luck, Jeffery, Jordy, and Benjamin.  Then we have the dramatically underperforming: Lacy, Miller, Calvin, Hilton, and others.

So let's look at the fantasy silver lining with respect to Charles' injury.  Multiple times in August and again last week I talked up RB Charcandrick West.  I'd watched game tape of him in college and closely followed his preseason practices and in-game performances.  He appeared to be a special talent simply waiting for the opportunity.  Well, that opportunity is here.  To those who grabbed him last week or earlier when I'd hyped him up, great job.  We'll see what he can do with 15+ touches.  For now, consider him an RB2/3 with tremendous upside, especially if he inherits goal-line carries.

In other news, I let many of you down yesterday by pushing the hell out of Roddy White.  It was ironic, because for the past few months I've held him up on this blog as an example of who you should never invest a draft pick or waiver pickup on.  In August I predicted that Atlanta's #3 WR, Leonard Hankerson, would overtake White as the team's #2 wideout.  So I missed big, and need to figure out why.
