With Week 5 behind us, let's catch up on some potentially critically important developments:
(1) The Chiefs are holding tryouts for RBs Pierre Thomas and Ben Tate. While I don't expect Tate to make the team, Thomas could add some fantasy turmoil to K.C.'s backfield. Charcandrick West has a narrow-but-meaningful advantage over Knile Davis. Adding Thomas to the equation could render all three fantasy irrelevant except maybe in 16+ team leagues. If one of your opponents happens to speaking lovingly about West, and you can get a WR3 for him, man, take it. Sure, West could be an RB2 if things break his way. But the value of picking him up last week or now isn't just to play him--it also might be to cash out and get some more reliable value in return.
(2) Jacksonville's Allen twins--WRs Robinson and Hurns--are posting WR1 numbers through five games. (How stupid was I to trade Robinson a few weeks ago?) (Although I did pick up Hurns a couple weeks ago, so there's that.) The point is, this is unsustainable. I will shut down this site if both guys finish the year as WR1s. So this makes Hurns the biggest sell-high WR out there. TE Julius Thomas will get involved. Rookie T.Y. Yeldon (when healthy) should continue to grow into his role. Defensive adjustments will be made. The key here is: When a pretty good player is playing out of his mind, is this is a sign he's actually elite? Or is he due for a regression? Hurns will have more 7-or-less fantasy point games from here on out than 13+ games. Get T.Y. Hilton for him. Package him in a 2-for-2 for Eddie Lacy. Don't get stuck riding a wave for too long; a wave is never permanent.
(3) If Yeldon can't go this weekend, and if Denard Robinson has recovered from his knee injury, the latter is a great risk-reward option for those desperate to fill their #2 RB slot. Shoelace looked great when he got the opportunity last season. This year's Jaguars are a couple of ticks better on offense, making his upside legit.
(4) If Odell Beckham, Jr. and Rueben Randle can't play in Week 6, Dwayne Harris is likely the best free agent WR flier you can find. Same goes for TE Larry Donnell. Both might be asked to carry the load vs. Philly's weak pass D. Keep tabs on the Giants' injuries this week.
