Week 3 Thursday Night Football Recap

There were plenty odditities in last night's game, but that's how fantasy football is played: The norm wins out 60-70% of the time, but the outliers are always lurking.

Take Shane Vereen, who had eight catches for 76 yards in Week 2.  How about last night?  Zero catches.  It's been 18 games since he hasn't caught a ball, and you'd have to go back to 2012 to find the game before that.

Matt Jones out-touched Alfred Morris 11-6.  He was clearly the lead back last night.  A goal-line fumble stripped him of eight fantasy points (six on the TD, two on the fumble).  More than that, he didn't touch the ball the rest of the game.  More than that, neither did Morris.  Jones had a 10+ point game in hand, but didn't finish.  He's still the better back, and likely will continue to dominate carries if he can learn how to hold onto the football.  But it didn't help owners last night.

Kirk Cousins reminded us that he's still a work on progress.  Many poorly thrown balls.  Some very bad decision making.  It's a setback, but he has a relatively long leash.

And how do Chris Thompson and Jamison Crowder get more catches than Pierre Garcon?  At the risk of overreacting, it's becoming clear that the Garcon of two years ago is gone.  His fantasy point totals haven't been horrible: 7, 8, and 6.  But when DJax returns, and with the rise of other, younger weapons, it's now hard to conceive of Garcon getting enough targets to be fantasy relevant more than a handful of times this season.

On the flip side, Rueben Randle broke out as anticipated.  His value will take a hit when Victor Cruz returns--potentially next weekend.  But he's once again fantasy relevant as a spot starter.
