Prepping for Week 2

Today's we'll get a better sense of which guys who "slumped" in Week 1 are in serious trouble, moderate trouble, or are just fine.  For example, Odell Beckham, Jr., Calvin Johnson, Adrian Peterson, and Greg Olsen produced huge letdowns last weekend.   Barring injury, none of these guys will fall into the "serious trouble" category regardless of how they do today.  They're positionally elite/near-elite players who, in all likelihood, will finish the season with elite/near-elite numbers.

But then there's the group that fantasy owners invested a decent amount in during the draft--"very good" players who failed to produce very good numbers in Week 1.  Ryan Tannehill, Frank Gore, Melvin Gordon, and Vincent Jackson are members of this middle group.  If they're destined for worse production than drafters anticipated, they might no longer be the weekly starters many anticipated they'd be.  It forces owners to make the tough decision: Do I bench this guy next week?  Do I try to trade him now before his value falls further, or is that too hasty a move?

Fantasy football is won with elite guys, obviously.  But it's also won by selecting the second- and third-tier guys capable of first-tier production.  When second- and third-tier players instead produce fourth-tier numbers or worse two straight weeks, it's time to take stock: Are they slumping, or is it time to recalibrate expectations?

We'll have a moderately better sense of how to answer these questions--and for which players--after today.
