Maybe I should buy into the fantasy buzz about Reggie Wayne signing with the Patriots. Surely the future Hall-of-Famer has at least one more great season in him--with extra motivation after no one else wanted him.
But there's a reason no one else wanted him. With one of the league's best QBs throwing to him, Wayne could muster only 779 yards and two scores in 15 games last season. He caught only 55% of his targets; his career percentage before last year was 62%. He's slowed down. His name--his legacy--does not match his current abilities.
I'm sure Bill Belichick will utilize him, especially if Julian Edelman or Brandon LaFell are sidelined. And if he's utilized, I'm sure he'll do adequately.
But while the news of his signing pushed him onto my draft board, he's simply an afterthought--ranked 228th overall and 84th among WRs. In the next couple of weeks, he might edge upward. But I wouldn't recommend anyone taking a chance on him.
