Preseason Game Injury Risks / Fantasy Updates

For a while I've believed preseason games should be geared toward second- and third-teamers vying for roster spots.  These contests are meaningless for most starters, who should have the right to opt out.

Franchises don't want starters to needlessly risk injury, undermining their Super Bowl chances.  Starters don't want to needlessly risk injury, as they're being paid to perform when it matters; preseason statistics don't bring in larger contracts.

But even if we don't like the rules, we play the cards that are dealt.  Jordy Nelson's injury is obviously monumental, and as with Kelvin Benjamin, the ripple effects will be felt all season.

On my draft board (see link below and images attached), WR Davante Adams skyrockets from a 102/44 ranking (overall/positional) to 57/21.  Unless something changes, he's an every week starter with occasional WR1 upside.  I was high on him before Jordy's injury. Now, if you're lucky enough to draft him in the middle rounds, he's an almost can't-miss major contributor.

WR Jeff Janis returns to the top 250 after dropping out a few weeks ago, landing at 171/67.  While you shouldn't overreach for him, he's a name to monitor as the Packers' revised offense becomes more defined.

TE Richard Rodgers--one of my bold predictions--inches up from 188/20 to 178/18.  He could be Aaron Rodgers' #4 or #5 target, putting him on the cusp of TE1 status in 14-team leagues.

In other news, pay close attention to what's happening in Pittsburgh.  Markus Wheaton is now ranked 124/54--up from 149/58 on Friday.  Starting in two-wideout sets, this preseason he's delivering on the potential that this blog and others hyped up last preseason.  Martavis Bryant edges downward a few spots.  While it's no time to panic with Bryant, it's a reminder that this situation is more fluid that many thought only a month ago.
