Some thoughts on yesterday's preseason games:
(1) Kirk Cousins was adequate enough to earn the Week 1 starting nod. His TD pass was lucky, but he was able to move the ball fairly well--all the more impressive with DJax out and Pierre Garcon largely not involved. Yes, Colt McCoy looked good too. But as I've been saying for a while, Cousins is the QB to own in Washington, and is a very worthwhile pickup in 2-QB leagues.
(2) Ronnie Hillman continued to look great, While C.J. Anderson solidified his starting role with some terrific runs. Hillman is a must-own handcuff to Anderson--though I remain high on Anderson as a highly probable RB1 this season.
(3) Alfred Morris, my 20th ranked RB, continues to worry me. He was awful last night with seven yards on four carries. Some might blame the offensive line, but backup Matt Jones gained 57 yards on seven carries. True, Jones was running against the second-string Ravens defense. But let's be clear here: Morris had his worst NFL season last year and has averaged about 290 rushes per season in his three-year NFL career. I'm considering dropping him outside the top 25, as Jones could be one Morris fumble or one Morris strained hamstring away from earning a timeshare.
(4) Vernon Davis didn't catch a ball, lowering his stock even further. I remain bullish, and maybe that's just stubbornness. He's too good to be ignored this season from a fantasy perspective and on the field. Destined to play from behind often, Colin Kaepernick will have little choice but to lean on his very capable tight end.
(5) Josh Robinson had a bad fumble and earned only four yards on five carries. He remains one of my bold predictions, but it's certainly a setback for a guy I view as the Colts' best long-term running back).
(6) Marvin Jones finally got on track with one TD and another score called back on a penalty. He has double-digit TD potential and remains one of my favorite largely unclaimed WRs.
