Some of the best fantasy pickups are the ones you make with the intention of starting them later--in other words, when none of your competitors are thinking about them.
Looking ahead to Week 12, one of the most interesting deep-cut pickups is Brian Hoyer. He's currently ranked 20th among fantasy QB scorers and is unowned in 80% of ESPN fantasy leagues. So why would anyone want to start him . . . ever?
Next week, two things are happening:
By adding Hoyer now, you give yourself a high-upside QB if you need him, while at the same time preventing your opponent from landing him. Hoyer's been no better than a low-end QB2, tossing more than 1 TD in only 2 games. But I foresee a top 10 QB performance in Week 12, amounting to 24+ fantasy points in standard scoring leagues.

Next week, two things are happening:
- He's facing the league's worst past defense (the Falcons).
- Josh Gordon is returning--the same Josh Gordon who last year was the top fantasy scoring WR, despite missing the season's first two games.
