Sunday Week 2 Recap

Week 2 isn't over, but for many of you, it might be already. And why wait 'til Tuesday morning to get a little dose of reflection in your morning coffee?

(1) I was a week off, but Mohamed Sanu finally came through. And in case any of you wonder whether I follow my own advice, yes, Sanu was in my starting lineup for the second straight game. I also talked him up on Twitter, even encouraging one guy to start him over Michael Floyd:

His performance is currently tied for 5th best among Week 2 WRs, and with A.J. Green likely sidelined for the next game, expect Sanu's stock to jump. If you followed my lead and picked him up two weeks ago, you'd have a potential WR1 in Week 3 and a fantastic bargaining chip for trades.

(2) For two straight weeks, in each of my two leagues, I've started the Texans D over the Seahawks'. This is worth sharing for two reasons. First, each time I drafted Seattle's D, several opponents thought it was way too early. Then later when I snagged the Texans, a lot of them questions the move: "Why waste a pick on a 2nd D when you have the best one already?"

This ties into the second point: The Texans have outscored the Seahawks by 19 fantasy points (standard scoring) through two weeks. One of my 10 bold predictions (see below) entailed Houston having a top 5 defense. Their matchups in weeks 1 and 2 were too good to sit them. As a result, I didn't feel pressured to start Seattle.

(3) As conveyed too many times to count on this blog, know when the trade overperforming players, and know when to trade for others' underperformers. The former group includes Antonio Gates, Bobby Rainey, Matt Asiata, and Sanu (yes, the Sanu I love in a fantasy sort of way is the same guy you need to unload before his stock drops by Week 5). If you have one of those players, there's a good chance someone in your league is willing to pay too much for them.

And that's how, one roster move at a time, you turn an up-and-down team into a dependably elite team.
