Thoughts on Jonathan Grimes

What to make of Jonathan Grimes? The third-year RB's career production amounts to 162 total yards and a TD--i.e., a typical game for Arian Foster when Foster was young and healthy.

Now Foster is a huge injury risk. Maybe he'll play 14 games this year. Maybe eight. Possibly fewer. Grimes is relatively unproven. But the latest word is that he's now #2 on the depth chart, ahead of Alfred Blue and, most notably, recent free agent signee Andre Brown.

Grimes has moved up my draft board from #174 overall (61st best RB) to #99 overall (#41 overall). Yes, I have a lot of RBs in the top 100, because history shows that several of today's handcuffs will become tomorrow's 20-touches-per-game starters. If I invest in two or three of them and one becomes a starter, I've invested very little (9th-12th round picks) for potential 3rd round returns.

There are a lot of moving parts in Houston's backfield. I'm not yet convinced that Grimes is the backup to own. But someone not named Arian will be scoring touchdowns this season for Houston. And right now Grimes is the best bet to return 7th or 8th round value on a 10th or 11th round pick.
