Toby Gerhart is not a great fantasy RB. He's not even a good one. In an age when "running-back-by-committee" is a curse word (phrase?) in fantasy circles, on first glance Gerhart looks like the complete package:
(1) In the prime of his career (27 years old)
(2) Not a lot of mileage (276 career carries)
(3) 4.7 yards per carry
(4) A capable receiver
And oh yeah, he's expected to be The Man in Jacksonville's backfield.
But I don't trust his potential one bit. And neither should you.
The Jaguars have a fairly exciting young receiver corps in Marqise Lee, Allen Robinson (if he ever gets healthy), and yeah, even Cecil Shorts should be good for WR3 numbers if he starts.
But the offensive line is atrocious. The defense is terrible. The QB situation is adequate at best. This is a team that, too many times, will find itself down three touchdowns in the third quarter. Gerhart's typical production will look something like this:
16 carries for 55 yards; 3 catches for 21 yards
He'll be lucky to crack 900 all-purpose yards and 5 TDs, placing him outside the top 30 fantasy RBs.
You have been warned. No go act on it.
