Top 10 Unconventional Fantasy Predictions:
#7 . . .
Devonta Freeman will score more fantasy points than Steven Jackson this season. This prediction taps into the short-sightedness of so many "experts" feeding predictable rankings to hungry fantasy competitors.
ESPN ranks Jackson as the 26th best RB, worth drafting before guys like Shane Vereen, Joique Bell, and Bishop Sankey. So why do people listen to ESPN. After all these years, I still have no idea. And where's Freeman on this list? At #60.
And I make this claim as a huge Steven Jackson fan. HUGE. Jackson was my 1st round pick in 2006, helping to lead my team to a 13-4 record and the fantasy title vs. my friends and one or two guys I didn't know very well. Few NFL players have worked harder or achieved more on the field than Jackson during the past 10 years.
But if you're a hardcore fantasy footballer, you know not to let emotion and bias compromise excellence. I may have a man-crush on Steven Jackson, but he doesn't need to sabotage my fantasy team. On my draft board, he's my 56th ranked RB. Freeman sits at #25, just ahead of Jeremy Hill and Trent Richardson.
My question to you is, would you rather draft a guy like Jackson in the 5th or 6th round, just because Yahoo (#33 RB), CBS Sports (#33 RB), ESPN, etc. are telling you to do it, or would you rather invest your previous draft pick on a guy who might well be Jackson's heir-apparent, and who has a better chance than Jackson to still be standing upright during your fantasy playoffs?
